Comparative study of antioxidant properties of the extracts of Polygonum acre H.B.K.

Aims: This study aimed to characterize and compare the antioxidative potential ofextracts obtained by infusion, decoction, tincture, aqueous extraction, hydroethanolicmaceration from aerial parts of Polygonum acre H.B.K., which hasbeen traditionally used in herbal preparations, for different purposes. The therapeuticbenefits are attributed phenolic compounds their antioxidant properties.Methods: All extracts were characterized considering quantitative contentof total phenolics, flavonoids, condensed and, hydrolysable tannins, colorimetricmethods. EHW-PA was selected HPLC analysis as it showed a higheryield (10.58 % w/m) content > 200 mg GAE/g dry extract. Thephenolic profile chromatogram with 20 peaks, presence gallicacid, rutin, quercetin verified comparison retention times ofstandard compounds. activities determined ABTS capturetest, ferric reducing power test (FRAP), superoxide anionscavenging test. Results: Tinctures higher average phenoliccompounds, present mainly flavonoid content. A significant correlation coefficientwas observed between its activity,determining FRAP assays. Differently, low moderate correlationbetween activity verified. Conclusion:This reinforces ethnopharmacological relevance Polygonumgenus could contribute scientific basis use P. preparations.
